Proverbs 31:10-31 Study (Part 13)

Ah, Proverbs 31.
One of the most quoted verses among Christian women (well, at least on Pinterest and on blogs).
But what does it mean to be a Proverbs 31 women?
Join me as I study each verse to discover what it means, and what it takes to become a Proverbs 31 woman.
Proverbs 31:22
  • "She makes herself coverings; her clothing is fine linen and purple." NRSV
  • "She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple." NIV
  • "She maketh coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple." KJV
  • "She makes her own bedspreads. She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns." NLT
  • "She makes her own clothing and dresses in colorful linens and silks." MSG
Knowing how to sew is a great skill-it can save you time and money. But frankly, we don't live in a time where that skill is necessary.
But it's not just about making your own coverings or bedspreads; I believe it's showing how a virtuous women is capable of handling things on her own. She doesn't wait around for others (for experts) to get something done, but rather she is able and willing to do it herself.

I found this part of the verse interesting.
  •  "...she dresses in fine linen and purple gowns." NLT
God tells us not to be consumed by our looks;
  • "Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes." 1 Peter 3:3 NLT
But here it says we're to be well dressed. I think the idea is that we should treat ourselves like we have value. It's not about dressing to get attention, but rather to be respectable and respected.She dresses properly for who she is, she is neither under dressed nor overdressed. She's modest and classy.
A virtuous women is a well dressed capable women.
