Proverbs 31:10-31 Study (Part 6)

Ah, Proverbs 31.
One of the most quoted verses among Christian women (well, at least on Pinterest and on blogs).
But what does it mean to be a Proverbs 31 women?
Join me as I study each verse to discover what it means, and what it takes to become a Proverbs 31 woman.
Proverbs 31:15
  • "She rises while it is still night and provides food for her husband and tasks for her servant girls." NRSV
  •  "She gets up while is it still night and she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants." NIV
  • "She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens." KJV
  • "She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the days work for her servant girls." NLT
  • "She gets up before dawn, preparing breakfast for her family and organizing her day." MSG
Once again, let's break this verse down.
  •  "She rises while it is still night..."NRSV
I would honestly take this more as a suggestion. I don't think you have to get up before the sun. You should get up early enough to have morning time with God; time to pray and prepare spiritually for the day.

Mark 1:35
  • "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." NIV
 Luke 5:16
  •  "But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed." NIV
If Jesus needed time to pray and be alone with God, we definitely do. Continuing the Proverbs 31:15 verse,
  • "...and provides food for her family..." NIV
When this verse was written, breakfast took a lot of preparing, where as now all you have to do is pour a bowl of cereal.
However, I think this verse can be applies to more than just making breakfast.
Romans 12:11
  • "Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically." NLT
Get up in the morning, spend time with God, and then afterwards get started on a productive day.
If you don't need to make breakfast, there are still several things you can do to serve your family.
Make a coffee for your husband, get lunches packed, iron clothing, bags together, anything they need to get moving in the morning.

  • ..."and tasks for her servant girls..."NRSV
Well, I don't know about you, but I do not have servant girls. But I think it could be applied to managing your home and doing your daily chores with a positive attitude.
Look, maybe your time with God is before sunrise, maybe it's after breakfast when the kids left for school. It's going to look different depending on who you are and what your household requires (if you live in an apartment you won't have to mow the lawn, if your don't have children you won't have to get them off to school, etc.)
It's okay to be different, no two Proverbs 31 women are going to be the same because God made no two person alike.

In summery, you need to make time for the Lord, every morning.  You should serve your family and do your daily chores enthusiastically and with a positive attitude.
